So that is it from this game. West Indies take on the winner of the Australia vs Afghanistan game for the fifth place playoff. While South Africa take one the loser of that game for the 7th place playoff. Till the cheers and take care!

West Indies skipper Kimani Melius starts by saying credit must be given to the boys for playing well. Adds that they tried to change their plans by bowling straight and that worked for them. Mentions that on any given day they would like to chase 143. Melius also says plan is to win 5 out of 6 games and that is it.

South African skipper Parsons says that they needed atleast 220 on this wicket. Adds that they struggled a lot against spin. Mentions the boys showed a lot of character. Parsons also says that there was variable bounce and the plan was to pick up quick wickets. Parsons gives credit to the bowlers for bowling well and also credits West Indies batters for applying themselves and adjusting well to the pitch.

Matthew Patrick is adjudged as the Man Of The Match. He says they were quite disappointed with their performance against New Zealand in their last match. Adds that he is feeling good for today's win. Mentions that he bowled according to the plan and there was spin on this wicket. He also adds that the wicket was a bit slow while batting.

Earlier in the day after winning the toss and opting to bat on a greenish track would always have posed a challenge and the South African batsmen failed to accept the challenge there. They threw their starts and failed to read the pitch which resulted in their downfall. With just 143 on board it was always a challenge for the bowlers to defend. They started really well and that brought some hope of a South African victory but it soon vanished as West Indies soon ate up the score slowly and steadily. In the end, South Africa came second.

Chasing 144 for victory was looking to be a simple one for the West Indies but it was not to be. They started on a bad note to lose a wicket in the first over itself and then lost another one too inside the first 5 overs. A steady stand between Kimani Melius and Kirk Mckenzie brought the innings on track but departure of the skipper at a crucial juncture pushed them on the back foot. The run flow dried up and also they failed to clear the fence in the middle overs. Another association between Matthew Patrick and Antonio Morris revived the innings as they kept their cool and played patiently. They rotated the strike and played a lot of dot balls. They just ensured that they occupy the crease for a longer time which helped them to cross the winning line.

So, the writing was on the wall as soon as West Indies were slotted to play against South Africa for the 5th place playoff. Not a cakewalk but one would say a comprehensive victory for the team from the Carribean islands. They outplayed their opposition in all the departments.

Talking of the South African batting, it was a sorry tale as it has been throughout the tournament. Only shining light for them was Levert Manje who showed some fight. But once he departed the downfall started. The young heads of South Africa hit the panic button and looked lost in the process. Wickets falling at regular intervals impacted their momentum too. They also lacked the application to play the pacers as well as the spinners despite knowing the ground and conditions better than the team from West Indies.

A brillant effort with the ball for the colts from the Carribean. They were spot on from the word go. The pacers especially Jayden Seales was on fire. He kept peppering the South African batsmen every now and then and that helped to create the pressure on the Saffas. Joshua James in particular was lethal as he was generating a lot of extra bounce and that also troubled the batsmen. When the spinners came in, it was superb from them. They did not let the pressure created by the pacers early on to fade. Ashmead Nedd was class apart as he got lot of bounce and turn from the pitch. Not to forget, the fielding placements and captaincy was superb.

WEST INDIES SKIPPER, KIMANI MELIUS, says that he would have batted first but now that they are bowling, the pacers would look to take some early wickets. On the previous match's loss, the captain says that it is time to move on and perform well against South Africa today.

SOUTH AFRICAN CAPTAIN, BRYCE PARSONS, says that the decision to bat first is because they struggled early in the morning but wants his side to weather the storm today and play well. Is disappointed with the way their tournament ended and just wants to end it in a nice manner now. On learnt lessons, Parsons reckons that South Africa are going the right way for the future and just need to be persistent and believe in themselves.

PITCH REPORT - Pommie Mbangwa has a look at the surface and observes a bit of green on it. JP Duminy is reminded of a good Day 1 Test wicket, which means, it looks like a good batting surface but the first hour will give you good amount of lateral movement and carry. He reckons that there is a pretty good covering of live grass on the wicket.

West Indies would be the most disappointed side of the two after being one of the favourites to lift the trophy and then crash out of the semi-finals' race. South Africa were not at their best throughout the tournament. West Indies are the favourites and South Africa need to come out attacking if they are to win the game against the Carribeans.
